Northern Ireland
A completely different trip from SW Ireland — focused on the Causeway Coast and Mourne Mountains. Royal County Down holds the #1 ranking in the world more consistently than any other course. Royal Portrush is hosting the 2025 Open Championship. The north coast trio (County Down, Portrush, Portstewart) is a world-class three-round circuit in under 90 minutes of driving.

Royal County Down
#1 Course in the World (Golf Digest)
Mourne Mountains backdrop, gorse everywhere, blind tee shots. No course combines difficulty and beauty quite like this. The single most coveted tee time in golf.

Open Championship Venue 2019 & 2025
Causal of at least one major per generation. Giant's Causeway coastline visible from the course.
Portstewart Strand
Top 50 in British Isles
Atlantic-facing. Best value of the north coast trio. Worth two rounds.
Ardglass Golf Club
Dramatic clifftop course on the Irish Sea. One of Ireland's most scenic, modest price.
WHAT A TRIP LOOKS LIKE
Arrive Belfast
Fly into Belfast International, collect cars, and drive north toward the Causeway Coast. The scenery changes within 20 minutes of the airport — dramatic basalt cliffs, Atlantic views, and the first sight of the Giant's Causeway coastline that will frame the next seven nights.
Portstewart Strand
Open the circuit at Portstewart Strand — the north coast's finest value and a genuinely great links in its own right, top 50 in the British Isles. A wise choice to open with: excellent condition, Atlantic views, and a round that prepares the group for what Royal Portrush and County Down will ask of them.
Royal Portrush — Dunluce Links
H.S. Colt's 1929 Open Championship venue returns to Northern Ireland's golf calendar as the premier event on the rota. Giant's Causeway coastal terrain, dune-framed fairways, and a finish that has produced some of Open Championship golf's most dramatic conclusions.
Royal Portrush — Valley Links
Portrush's Valley Links companion is an underrated back-nine experience with a more playable layout and the same Atlantic backdrop. A morning round here frees the afternoon for the Giant's Causeway itself — one of the world's genuine natural wonders, 20 minutes east.
Drive South — Royal County Down
The centrepiece of the entire trip. Royal County Down in Newcastle, #1 in the world, Mourne Mountains filling the skyline behind every tee shot, gorse lining fairways that demand precision. A caddie is the only rational choice. This is one of the great golf experiences on earth.
Ardglass Golf Club
Ardglass Golf Club on the Irish Sea — dramatic clifftop routing, modest green fee, and one of Northern Ireland's most scenic and undervisited courses. A fitting day-after-County-Down round for a group that needs something more forgiving.
Castlerock Golf Club
A final day at Castlerock — a traditional links between the River Bann and the Atlantic coast, Walker Cup host, and genuinely excellent condition year-round. Another top-50 British Isles layout that visiting groups almost never discover.
Depart Belfast
Morning drive to Belfast Airport. The north coast trio of County Down, Portrush, and Portstewart is the finest three-round links circuit in the world. The group will not argue about this.
GROUPS 12+ — Book Royal County Down and Royal Portrush Dunluce simultaneously with your dates — both restrict visitor rounds to specific days and hours, and a group of 12 will need to claim a full tee block. Apply directly with both clubs as soon as dates are confirmed. Niblick coordinates the applications and handles the logistical timing.
