Prairie Club
Three distinct courses — links, pine forest, and a Hanse/Shackelford short course — on the Nebraska Sandhills near Valentine. One of the great value walking resorts in America: green fees under $200 USD, caddie program, full lodge. The same ancient sand terrain that makes Sand Hills Golf Club legendary, but fully accessible. Fly to Rapid City or Denver and drive.

MUST-PLAY COURSES
Dunes Course
Lehman's rolling sandhill links design. Natural fescue, wind-exposed, fast. Best of the three.
Pines Course
Wooded companion through ponderosa pines. Completely different feel from the Dunes.
Horse Course
10-hole walking-only course. Short, fun, best value on property.
WHAT A TRIP LOOKS LIKE
Drive In & Lodge Dinner
The Prairie Club's remoteness is part of the appeal — the last hour of the drive through Nebraska Sandhills builds anticipation. Arrive, settle into the lodge, and let the group's first dinner set the tone for the week.
Dunes Course
Lead with Tom Lehman's sandhill links — rolling fescue terrain, firm and fast conditions, and a wind that shifts the strategy hole by hole. The course plays long into a headwind and short and fast downwind, so the same round feels different both ways.
Pines Course
Graham Marsh's wooded companion threads through ponderosa pines on terrain that shares nothing visually with the Dunes — tighter landing zones, more shade, and a course that favours ball-strikers over artists. Afternoon fly fishing on the Niobrara River nearby.
Horse Course + Dunes Afternoon
Morning loop on Hanse and Shackelford's 10-hole walking course — the ideal setting for a group skins game at a relaxed pace. Afternoon return to the Dunes for a back-nine loop and a last look at the sandhills before sunset.
Dunes Course — Competitive Round
Host the trip's main competition on the Dunes — full group Ryder Cup, stableford, or net stroke play. The sandhill terrain and wind make handicap golf genuinely interesting here. Group dinner and scoreboard posting that evening.
Pines Course Rematch & Depart
Final morning round on the Pines before the long drive back toward Rapid City or Denver. The group's quieter by now — a sign the trip did exactly what it was supposed to.
GROUPS 12+ — Prairie Club's lodge accommodates a maximum of around 30 guests — for groups of 12, book the lodge buyout option which includes all tee times, meals, and caddie coordination under a single invoice. It simplifies everything and the buyout pricing is competitive.
