Puerto Rico — Dorado Beach

TropicalBucket ListResortCaribbeanRitz-Carlton ReserveCaddies

Puerto Rico is the Caribbean's best-kept golf secret. The El Dorado course at Dorado Beach — Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s 1958 masterpiece, fully restored at a Ritz-Carlton Reserve — is one of the most historically significant resort courses in the Americas. A 4-hour direct flight from Toronto puts you in the Spanish Caribbean: year-round warmth, world-class cuisine, and no currency exchange. Distinct from both the Dominican Republic and Mexico options.

WHAT A TRIP LOOKS LIKE

4 ROUNDS
DAY 1

Arrive San Juan

Four-hour direct from Toronto, 45-minute transfer to Dorado Beach. Year-round temperatures in the mid-80s, no jetlag, no currency conversion. Check in to the Ritz-Carlton Reserve and spend the first evening at the Positivo beach bar watching the Atlantic.

DAY 2

TPC Dorado Beach — El Dorado

The course that put Dorado Beach on the map — RTJ Sr.'s 1958 design restored to Ritz-Carlton Reserve standard in 2012. The par-3s over coral-lined inlets are the round's defining moments, and the caddies here carry institutional knowledge of every break on every green.

DAY 3

Bahía Beach Golf Course

RTJ Jr.'s north shore course is the trip's second round and a genuine complement to El Dorado — different elevation profile, more open fairways, and a closing stretch with Atlantic views that extends the experience. Afternoon at the Bahía Beach beach club.

DAY 4

Old San Juan Day

A full day in Old San Juan is the trip's cultural anchor. El Morro fortress in the morning, Barrachina for piña coladas (supposedly the original), and a group dinner in La Placita before returning to Dorado. Not a golf day — an everything-else day.

DAY 5

El Dorado — Replay

The second run at El Dorado always reveals what the first round missed — the slope on the 12th green, the wind shift on the par-5s, the caddie tip on the 7th tee. Lowest score of the trip is usually posted here.

DAYS 6–7

Beach & Rainforest Day, Depart

Day 6: El Yunque National Rainforest is an hour east of Dorado — the only tropical rainforest in the US National Forest system, with waterfalls and bamboo canopy. Day 7 departure. Toronto is four hours away.

GROUPS 12+ — Dorado Beach is one of the few Caribbean destinations where the golf, the beach, and the cultural city (San Juan) form a genuine three-part trip without needing a car for the entire stay. For groups of 12+, book villa accommodations at the Reserve and confirm group tee times directly with the TPC Dorado Beach pro shop — the course limits daily rounds, and group blocks require advance booking.
